Embracing my Hair | Video

Happy Wednesday:

Today’s video is one that is near & dear to my heart – I just have a weird relationship with my hair.

If you’ve been following me for a bit, you would know that I have a genetic hair loss that causes my hair to thin faster than it’s suppose to for your average gal. By the time I hit my 30’s, there will be a noticeable bald spot on the crown of my head. It’s taken me a while to fully accept and embrace this fate, but I am happy I’ve managed to over come this struggle. I’ve fully embraced the idea of having no hair, so much so that I plan on shaving bald in less than 2 weeks.

I’m beyond scared, but I can’t deny that I’m also beyond excited. Be the change you wish to see in the world – always.

Thank you so much if you have been following me on my hair journey. Your support means the world to me, and has definitely made this process a lot easier to deal with and I couldn’t be happier about that.

I share my hair journey in this video, while also talking about the issues I had with fully embracing my hair as a woman of color. I hope you guys enjoy:

Have you ever had issues with embracing your hair? I’d love to learn about some of your experiences!

P.S. If you’re dealing with finals right now, I’m sending you all of my love; this semester has definitely been kicking me in the butt.

Si se puede.

‘Till next week,

GC xo

    1. Thank you so much! YOU are beautiful! I promise. Have you recently shaved it? How was it for you? Are you happier? Wearing wigs? Sorry for all of the questions, but I love it when I meet women who have gone where I’m headed! I’d love to hear all about your experience shaving bald!

      1. Yes, I shave it every week with hair clippers, so I have a less of a map appearance. I wear wigs sometimes. Have just gotten the conference to not wear a wig in public. My profile photo is a wig πŸ˜€ read my blog I have just started to write, out of the frustration of not having anyone in my city to talk to about it

      2. I apologize for taking a few days to reply, I have been so busy with school [finals] and working on a mini holiday collection [I also make jewelry]. Thank you for the advice, I will be on the hunt for good clippers! I’m glad you’re now comfortable being bald in public. I plan on forcing myself to be bald for a few months before investing in a wig. πŸ™‚ I am following you right now! I totally understand the frustration of not having people to talk to about this issue. ❀ I hope you had an amazing day!

  2. You know… I’ve been talking to a lot of my friends about you lately, a few of them losing their hair currently, some of those also think about going bald for 2016 and are so proud of you for that decision even though they dont know you yet!
my problems are only skin based but I’ve had two times that my hair was falling out & breaking like crazy which was a mixture of the eating / mental problems and too much bleaching & backcombing without taking care of it… I would love to give the volume of the shaved parts of my hair to any other person since that probably would be enough hair to cover an entire head O_OΒ°

    1. This comment mad my heart so warm. I’m glad you have been talking to your friends about me, especially with my hair journey. I was extremely nervous opening up about that but the fact that there are so many folks dealing with it, it makes me so happy! They are amazing & i wish them all of the success going into the new year hairless! Your skin looks amazing! I’ve never noticed there being any issue. Lol you’re amazing! The fact that you would give your hair away – you’re amazing! Thank you so much for this comment. It honestly made my day!

  3. Hair is such an unimportant part of our being, yet we wrap so much of our identity within it–and it’s not just women. Men have this same fixation on their “crown & glory.”
I’m so excited to follow your journey. I can already tell it’s going to be an inspiring one.

    1. Definitely! It makes me really sad, honestly, which is why I’m stoked to rock the bald – I want to prove to people that being bald is just as beautiful as having hair. My aunt came to visit me a few days ago [she also has alopecia] & she told me that she can’t get rid of her hair, even though her case is worse than mine.

I’m also happy I did it because I truly found my self love & I literally want EVERYONE, with or without hair, to find their self love. It’s amazing to really feel like yourself. ❀ Thank you so much for commenting & I apologize for replying back late. Just started my spring semester! Have an amazing Tuesday, beautiful!
