Night Light. | #Throwback

Happy Thursday:

I’m not one who normally posts up the throwbacks on Thursday’s. I, personally, don’t enjoy reliving past memories – I’m always about the now and working towards the future goals I have set for myself. Today, however, I’m breaking that non-habit with an Outfit of the Day from my 23rd birthday last May.

My birthday last year was the moment in my blogging career where I really wanted to learn how to create quality content – especially with my photos. Darien, my boyfriend turned photographer, shot these photos in RAW mode and later learned that his version of photoshop couldn’t support them. We recently updated to the latest version of Adobe Cloud and we both couldn’t be more excited. The hard work we’re going to be putting in this year is going to be r e a l.

We ended up going out to a simple dinner date in our neighborhood – nothing too crazy nor fancy. I wanted to go for a ‘casual, but cute’ look. I was super pleased with my day.

My biggest blessing though: having my boyfriend be my best friend, photographer, and biggest fan. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday companion. Or life partner, really.

Parsons x Teen Vogue: Production Cost Assignment

Happy Friday –

This post is dedicated to Class 3, Assignment 1 in the online Fashion Essentials course from Parsons x Teen Vogue. The goal of this assignemt is to understand the differences in production costs between both small and large companies.

We were to create an accessory inspired by a mood board we previously created for another assignment; and find out how much it cost to produce it. Once we were done with that, our next step was to find the same pieces at a cheaper price and calculate what it would cost to produce it as whole sale.

Here is my design and what it was inspired by:

GC Idea

IMG_2171

The original price for the supplies used to create this necklace are as follow:

Jump Rings/Claw/Chain/Endings: $1

Hemp Strings: $0.50

Beads: $0.10

Labor: $3.20

Production Cost: $4.80

Retail Value: $8.00

Profit: $3.20

I found the supplies cheaper on a wholesale site. The price for the new supplies are as follow:

Jump Ring/Claw/Chain/Endings: $0.50

Hemp String: $0.01

Beads: $0.05

Labor: $1.60

Production Cost: $2.70

Retail Value: $8.00

Profit: $5.30

Finding supplies cheaper and being able to produce more products faster allows you to make a greater profit. The downside on that is that the quality of clothing definitely decreases when more of the same items are produced.

I’ll explain this further in my next assignment blogpost. Keep an eye out for it in the next few days.

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a peek at a Parsons x Teen Vogue assignment. Hope you enjoyed!

Till next time,

GC xo

Spring OOTD | Vivacious Apparel.

Happy Wednesday:

I am SO excited for this weeks video – it’s super short but I promise you, it’s totally sweet.

Since starting my new job three weeks ago, I feel like I am FINALLY getting back on track with both filming & blogging.

I do plan on doing weekly videos and posts again: one video and one outfit post per week. There may be some exceptions on certain weeks were I post up two non-video posts on my blog, like this week, but overall, I do plan on getting back into a regular schedule. Thank you for keeping up with me!

Today’s video is an Outfit of the Day, featuring a special top handmade by my lovely friend and fellow blogger, Ashley, of Vivacious Lifestylin’. She, like me, has a small online shop where she sells her handmade goodies. I am a HUGE supporter of small businesses & artists, so I thought it would be fun to trade some goodies and style & feature them on our platforms. I decided to films a video because I’ve been itching to experiment with filming.

It’s that growth – I’m ready to start creating quality content, folks.

Without further or do, here is my OOTD Featuring Vivacious Apparel:

Be sure to check out Ashley’s shop Vivacious Apparel by clicking here.

Do you like how I styled my top? Any ideas on how you would style it? Drop a comment down below!

Thank you so much for watching!

‘Till Friday,

Flower Power.

Happy Friday:

‘Tis the season of florals!

sidewayschola

Since the weather has gotten warmer in the past 2 weeks or so, I have been on my a-game as far as getting dressed in the morning goes. There’s just something about the spring weather that lifts up my overall mood – I feel free and ready to soar!

I was recently sent some handcrafted jewelry from an Etsy Shop called Lovely Folds. I met the designer/owner through my YouTube channel – she stumbled upon one of my videos & since then, we’ve have been chatting every so often. It was extremely kind of her to send me a few goodies – blogging about it was my first thought.

Oh, & I’m also excited because this is my first Spring related outfit post.

I wanted this outfit to be super girly while still embodying a free spirit vibe. My favorite thing about this outfit is the fact that almost all of the pieces are thrifted. Specifically, the dress, denim jacket and shoes are all thrifted. I’ve been wanting to rock these shoes for a bit and thought it matched perfectly with the delicate florals on the dress. To keep things classic, I threw on a medium wash denim jacket.

ChinScarf

For accessories, I went with my straw floppy hat from Forever 21 because it’s going to be a necessity for protecting my baldie head from the UV rays. As for the baby scarf,  they’re my new obsession. I have a trillion of ’em! My mom first gave these to me back when I was a preteen but I never had the confidence to rock ’em. She dropped them off a few weeks ago & I immediately wanted to add them to all of my outfits! They scream Spring!

My favorite jewelry piece has to be the Geometric Origami Earrings. I love how they have such spunk, especially with the black and white color combo. The cat earrings are super cute and the necklace is such a fun piece. These are small details that would really add some personality to any basic outfit! Or it can be the added funk to your already funky outfit – it’s perfect.

I’m noticing that my style is slowly changing, becoming a lot more mature and I couldn’t be more excited to be experiencing this growth. Especially fashion wise. Stay tuned – I have a lot more outfits, lookbooks and styling videos in the works.

Be sure to check out Lovely Folds Etsy shop – prices are super inexpensive, the quality is superb and the pieces are made with real love! What more could you ask for?

Thank you again, Irene, for sending me these pieces. I’ve been wearing them nonstop!

Thank you for stopping by,

‘Till next week,

Collective Spring Haul ’16 | Video

Happy Friday:

I’ve done some damage to my wallet lately, and when I say damage, I mean damage. So much so, I needed to film this haul in two parts!

If it hasn’t been obvious, I am beyond ready for Spring – I’ve been shopping for Spring attire since January! There’s this feeling that Spring weather evokes that simply lifts up my hippie soul.

It’s my season.

Check out the make-up, accessories & clothing pieces I’ve accumulated in the past few months – there’s a nice variety of things!

March Collage & Wishlist

Happy Monday:

I’m here with another monthly Collage and Wishlist! These posts have quickly become one of my favorites to post. I genuinely enjoy flipping through old magazines & pasting pictures together to reflect my current inspirations. As you’ll see, I’m seriously dying for spring to make its arrival – and stay for a bit.

SPRING FEVER

Collage 2

I have a serious case of the winter blues. Though New York has had a few days of Spring, global warming keeps coming back, hitting us with 30 degree weather and snow…in April. As I’m typing this post up, it’s gloomy, cold and rainy outside. Since I still have time to prep for my Spring Wardrobe, I decided to take on the challenge of creating my own capsule collection. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that having an abundant amount of clothes has honestly made it harder for me to get dressed in the morning. I find that I gravitate towards the same clothes all the time – do I really need those 15 tops that I never even glance at? This collage has a few pieces that I already own, and some pieces I hope to find via thrift store & DIY within the next few week. All I’ve been thinking about are the endless amount of outfits I can create this spring season. This is going to be my season – I am a May baby, so this is technically my season. Expect a lot of fashion videos and posts this Spring, my creative juices have been flowing non-stop!

SPRING AWAKENING

Spring Awakening.

This is an outfit I’ve had in my mind for a few weeks now. I’m on the hunt for the perfect off-the-shoulder top, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. I recently picked up some silk fabric and have been playing around with my sewing machine, so I’m definitely planning on creating my own perfect top. When in doubt, make it yo’ self. My accessory game has improved tremendously since shaving bald and I seriously cannot wait to rock the boho vibes.  I’m forever one with the bohemian vibes.

Wishlist:

  • Denim: Boohoo Ripped BF Jeans $44
  • Top: TopShop Off-the-Shoulder Blouse $52
  • Shoes: Bamboo Chunky Heel Sandals $30
  • Bag: Montana West Western Aztec Fringe Shoulder Bag $64
  • Necklace: Leslie Danzis Glass Crystal Fringe Pendant $45
  • Headscarf: Kaly Easy Scarf $44
  • Earrings: Etsy $10
  • Nail Polish: Essie Borrowed Blue [No Price]
  • Lip: Lime Crime Buffy Velvetine Liquid Lipstick $20
  • Ariana Grande Ari Eau de Parfum Spray 3.4 oz $59

Are you dealing with the Winter Blues? Has Spring officially hit your home town? Let me know down below!

1,000 Ways to Love.

Happy Monday:

DSC05723

As soon as Bonnie & I met up, Bonnie, who is my college bestie, immediately noticed that I was dolled up and asked me if I brought my camera to document my outfit – she seriously knows me and that makes me so happy. Bonnie was my photographer during my pre-pregnancy days; she was the one who helped me with my photos when I started my first legitimate blog a few years back!

We met up in Williamsburg last week to talk business on a collaboration we’re currently working on. I don’t want to release too many details, but just know that we are taking handmade jewelry to a whole ‘nother level, and I couldn’t be more stoked. *Side Note: I do make handmade jewelry & sell it on my Etsy shop hereI also saw this lunch date as the perfect opportunity to get dolled up & style this Gypsy Mirina Necklace  I received.

Gypsy Necklace.
I am obsessed with this statement necklace – I feel like a bohemian princess whenever I wear it. That’s literally what I aim for every day whenever I am getting dressed. The details on the coins are simply lovely & adds the perfect amount of mystical meets gypsy vibes to the necklace.

I wanted the necklace to be the star of this outfit, so I decided to wear my thrifted, men’s red jumper as a sweater dress. To keep warm, I threw on a pair of plain tights & over that, added a pair of simple, lightly detailed, cute socks. As far as accessories go: I wore my fringe crossbody for that added bohemian vibe, & it’s literally my favorite bag at the moment, my faux-fur hat for that added fierce, and my black booties with the white soals. The color block on the socks and shoes adds the perfect amount of funk.

DeadGypsie Jewelry Holiday Collection Lookbook

Happy Wednesday:

I’m beyond stoked to finally share the official Lookbook for my DeadGypsie Mini-Holiday Collection.

It will officially drop this Friday, December 25th on my Etsy shop. Make sure you favorite my shop to be updated when the collection goes live!

DeadGypsie Etsy Shop.

I’m extremely proud of this collection for many reasons. It’s a lot more minimal & neutral compared to my first – I’m sure that has a direct correlation with the growth I’ve experienced in the past few months. I’m a lot more simplistic in the way I dress and I feel like it’s been my passing into full adulthood. I couldn’t be more proud of this collection.

I also added a few pieces for the dudes because it was highly requested after my last collection.

DeadGypsie Holiday Lookbook:

This Holiday Collection consists of:

  • His & Her’s Wood Bracelet
  • Amy’s Evil Eye Bracelet
  • John’s Marble Wood Bracelet
  • Brooklyn Warrior Buffalo Teeth Earrings
  • Aztec Princess Skull Earrings
  • Sun Goddess Sterling Silver Necklace
  • Mano’s Leather Wood Necklace
  • Yuisa’s Fringe Hemp Necklace
  • Abby’s Skull Double Bracelet

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me thus far, I wouldn’t be able to share my love for jewelry making if it weren’t for you. You know who you are.

I also want to give a huge thank you to both models – Amy & Jonathan – for being a part of this project. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better pair of models; their energy speaks volumes on their sincerity and love for the arts.

Last, but certainly not least, I want to give a ginormous thank you to my best friend & photographer, Oscar. We only spoke briefly about what I wanted & my overall vision, and without even trying, he managed to capture it and make it my reality. He is the ying to my yang and none of this would be possible if it weren’t for him.

Check out the magic that happened to create this beautiful shoot:

Thank you so much for stopping by. The love is really real, and I honestly can’t get over how blessed I am.

Mad love to y’all. Stay safe and happy holidays.

‘Till next week,

New York Gypsy.

Happy Monday:

I hope you had an amazing weekend!

Did you get a chance to see the blood moon last night? It was definitely a sight to see. My gypsy soul was on maximum – I couldn’t keep my eyes away!

DSC04277
#nofilter

Though I do have a soft spot for fairies, for those of you who don’t know, my name, La Mama Hada, means The Mom Fairy in Spanish, my soul will always be one with the gypsies. I’m a total wanderer and my love for all things supernatural is serious. I have a sixth sense – I’m convinced.

My best friend asked me to tag a long with him to pick up a few things from a local Botanica for a school project he was working on. A botanica is a store that sells folk medicine, religious candles, oils, things of that nature. It’s extremely popular in Latino & Hispanic cultures.

I’m not sure if I subconsciously felt the need to channel my inner gypsy on this trip, or I just really wanted to rock my floppy hat since its official fall, but, either way, I seriously felt like myself in this outfit. It was perfect.

20140726-DSC03771

20140726-DSC03766

My black, high-waisted skinnies are my current obsession. I can’t wait to play around with them this season – it’s perfectly versatile! I paired my skinnies with my halter crop from the Jhene Aiko x Neff collaboration, because I love the boho-princess feel it evokes. To cover up, I threw on my Forever 21 floral kimono. The key to mixing prints is having a common color. In my case, it’s, of course, black. And to add some sass, I decided to go all out with some heeled, ankle booties.

Will you be channeling your inner gypsy this fall season?

Couples OOTD: End of summer ’15 || Video

Happy Wednesday:

If you read my last post, you would know that Darien won a pair of Vans for me through an Instagram giveaway. Darien is my boyfriend, for those of you who are new here or just don’t know. They are the Vans collaboration with the beer Pabst Blue Ribbon. He got them in my size because he had bought a pair for himself a few months ago, through a sneaker forum. He’s the sweetest & I’m the luckiest girl in the world.

In celebration of America’s 239th birthday, Pabst Blue Ribbon went and gave away 239 pairs of kicks, for free! I was one who has always been skeptical about Instagram giveaways, but they are actually legitimate. So don’t be afraid, go ahead & enter that giveaway!

I thought it’d be cool for both us to style them. It’s been a while since we last filmed a fashion video together, so when we were officially twinning with these kicks, this video idea hit me. What do you think of our outfits? Which one is your favorite?

I never heard of this brand of beer until Darien bought his pair of Vans. But guys, let me tell you, it’s officially my favorite beer! It doesn’t have that harsh taste most beers have, and it goes down your throat easy. Know what I mean? I recommend this beer to anyone who hasn’t found that perfect beer yet – it’s perfection, I swear.

Thank you so much for stopping by – enjoy the video!

Until Friday:
