SoHo Kid

Happy Wednesday –

My countdown to Florida is official: 1 more week. 7 more Days. 168 more hours. Too much?

I haven’t had the time to update the blog, but, incase you missed it, I did upload a full update video on my YouTube channel here. Due to certain circumstances, Darien and I have found that New York City just isn’t the place for us right now. It took me some time to adjust, but I’m ready for this new chapter in my storybook. While I’m still in the Big Apple, though, I’ve been hustlin’, harder than ever. Expect my next few posts to be based in NYC & collaborative.

I recently did a shoot with Amanda-Lee – also knows as @a_leethal on Instagram – who’s actually the first female photographer I’ve ever worked with. Needless to say, the #pussypower was real.

As far as the styling goes: this look was 100% inspired by Darien.

Those low points in life – they’re forever causing stress, heartache, maybe even slight depression. And no matter how hard you try to overcome your obstacle, you find yourself worse than before.

That’s okay.

You’re allowed to feel down. Allowed to feel like there’s no hope. You should always permit yourself the time to feel. Even when the feelings aren’t great. You’re human, and you’re meant to handle rough roads. How else are you suppose to grow? Get stronger? Find YOU?

Give yourself the green-light to get lost for a bit. Once you find the path in that dark, dim world that is your thoughts, the directions to yourself will follow.

Night Light. | #Throwback

Happy Thursday:

I’m not one who normally posts up the throwbacks on Thursday’s. I, personally, don’t enjoy reliving past memories – I’m always about the now and working towards the future goals I have set for myself. Today, however, I’m breaking that non-habit with an Outfit of the Day from my 23rd birthday last May.

My birthday last year was the moment in my blogging career where I really wanted to learn how to create quality content – especially with my photos. Darien, my boyfriend turned photographer, shot these photos in RAW mode and later learned that his version of photoshop couldn’t support them. We recently updated to the latest version of Adobe Cloud and we both couldn’t be more excited. The hard work we’re going to be putting in this year is going to be r e a l.

We ended up going out to a simple dinner date in our neighborhood – nothing too crazy nor fancy. I wanted to go for a ‘casual, but cute’ look. I was super pleased with my day.

My biggest blessing though: having my boyfriend be my best friend, photographer, and biggest fan. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday companion. Or life partner, really.

Brooklyn Babies || Adventures of The Mom Blogger

Happy Thursday:

One of my New Year’s resolution for both my blog and YouTube channel is definitely branching out into the world of Mom Blogging. I follow so many mom bloggers who coordinate their looks with their little ones; and the swagspiration is always on point. Now that my girl is almost 2 1/2 years old, I am excited to slowly introduce her to the blogging world and hope that she enjoys it as much as I do.

I’m happy to say that our first impromptu photo shoot went pretty well.

The last month of 2016 has been a month filled with both reflections and hardcore planning. Expect to see more of me this year – and occasionally, a very special, miniature, guest.

Styling & Visual Merchandising

Happy Sunday:

Today’s post is dedicated to yet another Parsons x Teen Vogue aassigment. The focus on this one is visual merchandising and the science behind making it visually appealing for customers to shop in ‘your store.’

I had the opportunity to work as a Visual Merchandiser at Old Navy for a few months earlier this year – It was a totally new experience for me, but was one that has since stuck with my interests. There’s just something about styling that makes me happy. Though I don’t rock H&M often, every time I walk in there, I’m always impressed with how they style their merchandise. It’s why I decided to go into their store and highlight what they do to offer a better shopping experience for their customers.

This location is in Manhattan, New York. It’s a newer location – and the vibe of it rules.

As far as the actual store design goes: let’s face it, there’s just something about a white, crisp, store. Add mirrors to that, and you’d have an ‘infinite feeling’ experience while the chandeliers only add to the ‘runway-meets-streetstyle’ atmosphere. The store totally feels open and ready to take you on a fashion closet ride.

One thing that I found interesting was the placement of the sales item; they were placed where customers walked to most – the escalators and the fitting rooms. Speaking on the actual placement of the non-sale garments: I immediately noticed that they were properly styled. Dresses would be next to coats while tops and bottoms were together in color coordination. It’s an eye appealing set-up.

I still have a huge interest in Visual Styling & Merchandising, so this is definitely a field I plan to continue to expand my knowledge and experience. Especially since I plan to open up my own store – these are skills I will be using for years to come.

Thank you so much for stopping by,

Sending my love! Forever & always. ❤

Denim Diary: Vintage Maxi Dress.

Happy Wednesday:

I am a Flea Queen.

walking

I still can’t believe I managed to snag up this Vintage Denim Maxi Dress for only 3 bucks! It was the inspiration behind my month long denim outfits – of course, it was only natural that I save the best ensemble for last.

Embracing the chic Alexa Chung vibes from this dress was a bit scary, I don’t ever really consider myself chic, but when I was walking around flaunting this dress, I felt amazing. I’m always impressed when a piece of clothing ups my mood significantly – it’s a reminder of the true power that fashion carry and the reason why I dedicate so much of my time too styling.

Fashion is love. Fashion is life.

To keep up with the chic, vintage vibes, I decided to add my Old Navy mules – I am a little sadden though because they definitely left a blister on my toe. In their defense, they are a half size too small. Y’all know I’m obsessed with my chocker scarves, so of course I used it as simple pop of color & topped off the look with my pink Fringe cross body.

Life Update:

This denim filled month was supposed to be over last week of June, but things on my end have gotten a bit wonky again! I am about to start job 2 in a few weeks and weirdly, feel this urge to clean up my home life to better fit my new lifestyle. Things have been on a constant roll of change and I am seriously blessed. I just need a few more weeks to get in the hang of things – no worries though! I WILL be coming back stronger than ever.

I’m also in the works of taking my blog to the next step by self hosting. That should be ready and done by the time I come back. Oh & another reason I need a break? I have a vending event at a local Flea on June 22nd. I REALLY need to put more of my time and energy there & in order to do that, I need to take a break from the Blogging & YouTube.

I definitely don’t mind the breather: I need to get my life in order to properly give my platforms lots of love.

Sending all of my love your way! I hope you had a fantastic 4th of July weekend. I’ll catch you soon.

Peace. Love. Harmony.

Lived In.

Happy Wednesday:

I’m a huge sucker for oversized tees.

Maybe it’s the super laid back vibe they give off, or maybe it’s the fact that they literally feel like you’re wearing your jammies – or it could be both. Nonetheless, I’m obsessed with this super, duper, totally relaxed, casual trend.

I’ve been caught wearing my oversized tee with heels – adding heels gives the overly slouchy top a more feminine feel.

Screenshot_2016-06-22-06-40-45-1.png

But for today’s post, I wanted to really play around with the roughed up, lived-in look.

3

Sublime is definitely one of my favorite bands of all time – whenever I listen to them, I am automatically put in a good mood. When I saw this tee at my job during an overnight shift, I just knew it would be the perfect slouchy band tee.

2

To give this top some edge, I added my HUF socks. There are many reasons why I love my HUF socks, but the main reason? They always add the perfect amount of honest sass to my outfits. For that true Urban, New York look, I threw on my Timberland boots. I swear  I always feel like I can kick ass when rocking ’em.

To cover up on this breezy, summer night, I completed the look with a semi-oversized denim jacket. It’s a true essential in my closet.

There’s only one more outfit left in my June Denim Diary series. I hope you’ve been enjoying my denim inspired looks! This next one is definitely my favorite look!
