SoHo Kid

Happy Wednesday –

My countdown to Florida is official: 1 more week. 7 more Days. 168 more hours. Too much?

I haven’t had the time to update the blog, but, incase you missed it, I did upload a full update video on my YouTube channel here. Due to certain circumstances, Darien and I have found that New York City just isn’t the place for us right now. It took me some time to adjust, but I’m ready for this new chapter in my storybook. While I’m still in the Big Apple, though, I’ve been hustlin’, harder than ever. Expect my next few posts to be based in NYC & collaborative.

I recently did a shoot with Amanda-Lee – also knows as @a_leethal on Instagram – who’s actually the first female photographer I’ve ever worked with. Needless to say, the #pussypower was real.

As far as the styling goes: this look was 100% inspired by Darien.

Night Light. | #Throwback

Happy Thursday:

I’m not one who normally posts up the throwbacks on Thursday’s. I, personally, don’t enjoy reliving past memories – I’m always about the now and working towards the future goals I have set for myself. Today, however, I’m breaking that non-habit with an Outfit of the Day from my 23rd birthday last May.

My birthday last year was the moment in my blogging career where I really wanted to learn how to create quality content – especially with my photos. Darien, my boyfriend turned photographer, shot these photos in RAW mode and later learned that his version of photoshop couldn’t support them. We recently updated to the latest version of Adobe Cloud and we both couldn’t be more excited. The hard work we’re going to be putting in this year is going to be r e a l.

We ended up going out to a simple dinner date in our neighborhood – nothing too crazy nor fancy. I wanted to go for a ‘casual, but cute’ look. I was super pleased with my day.

My biggest blessing though: having my boyfriend be my best friend, photographer, and biggest fan. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday companion. Or life partner, really.

Parsons x Teen Vogue Fashion Essential’s Online Course Review

Happy Wednesday:

Though I’ve been pretty MIA the last few months of 2016, one thing that I was consistently posting about was my assignments from the online course I took with Parsons & Teen Vogue.

I recently completed the course – and received my certificate – and couldn’t be more happy. I thought it would be great to share both my experiences & thoughts on the course incase you had ideas on taking the course yourself.

You can check out my review below:

Have you heard of the Fashion Essential’s course with Parsons & Teen Vogue? Are you currently enrolled? Recently completed the course? I would love to read your thought!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

‘Till next week,

GLO’ UP. | January 2017 Collage

Happy Hump Day:

The first half of 2016 was filled with monthly collages. I simply love how they gave me a burst of inspiration! I am one who is always inspired by everything I encounter, however, I find that it’s always nice to refine that constant inspiration onto one board.

Pinterest is a perfect way to have a mess-free board.*

I wanted to get back into the flow of making collages:

Welcome, Twenty Seventeen.

When was the last time you made a collage? Do you think they’re a great outlet for your inspiration? I would love to know your thoughts!

I’ll catch ya on my next post,

Brooklyn Babies || Adventures of The Mom Blogger

Happy Thursday:

One of my New Year’s resolution for both my blog and YouTube channel is definitely branching out into the world of Mom Blogging. I follow so many mom bloggers who coordinate their looks with their little ones; and the swagspiration is always on point. Now that my girl is almost 2 1/2 years old, I am excited to slowly introduce her to the blogging world and hope that she enjoys it as much as I do.

I’m happy to say that our first impromptu photo shoot went pretty well.

The last month of 2016 has been a month filled with both reflections and hardcore planning. Expect to see more of me this year – and occasionally, a very special, miniature, guest.

My Product | Parson x Teen Vogue

Undone Bag.

& we are finally here, the last Parson x Teen Vogue related blog post.

This has been such a bitter sweet experience. I am so happy with all of the knowledge I have gained since starting this course – it has showed me which areas I need to drastically improve on [This post will highlight one of those skills] but it also enlightened me with things I didn’t know at all, and even helped me gain a better understanding of other aspects of the fashion industry.

I totally recommend this course for anyone who wants a basic, overall education on what the fashion industry consists off. It has opened my eyes to a lot.

Today’s post is all about the bag I designed back in the first course. I kind of went all out and purchased real leather, in the hopes of really being able to rock this bag for years to come. After cutting out the pattern, something told me to double check if leather needed a specific needle in order to be sewn together. Turned out, I was right. Leather is a lot thicker compared to other fabrics, so a basic needle wouldn’t be able to survive the stitching. For that reason, I won’t be able to give an exact pricing for the supplies, labor, nor the entire retail cost. I simply placed the pattern together to show what it would essentially look like. With the price of the fabric alone, I wanted to deepen my understanding of how to construct a leather bag to make sure this one turned out as great as possible.

Cost of the Leather: $55

Cost of Floral Fabric: $2/Yard

With the coming weeks, I do plan to treat myself this Christmas season by self hosting this blog and really committing the time this blog – and my passion – deserves. I have so many ideas and themes for future posts – 2017 is going to be a big year for this blog.

I’ll catch you later in another post real soon, and as always, sending all of my love your way!

Thank you so much for stopping by.

Top 8 Thrifting Tips From Your Friendly Native New Yorker.

So you want to start thrifting, ay’? I am a believer that everyone should become part of the #thriftsquad – not only is it budget friendly, but in a world where mass production is the norm, thrifting is one of the easiest ways to help promote recycling. To help with your new vintage venture, or to expand your strategy of thrifting, here a few of my favorite thrifting tips:

SLOW & STEADY ALWAYS WIN.

Patience is a virtue. It may seem weird that I have patience as the first tip for thrifting, but in order to find those gems your friends are always flaunting, you need to be okay with committing a chunk of time to browse and shop. The best pieces are always the ones that are hidden. Be ready to spend a few hours, a full afternoon or evening, dedicated to searching through used clothes. It’s totally worth it, promise.

DIGGIN’ DAYS AREN’T OVER.

When thrifting, it’s okay to check every single hanger from every single section. This is a part of the equation in finding those gem pieces. That funky little boys graphic can totally work as your new go-to crop. & Those men tees are PERFECT for the latest oversized-tee-as-dresses trend. The whole store is your playground, go ahead and dig for days.

ENERGY TIP.

If you’re like me, you are extremely dedicated to making sure you are never hangry, ever. Going thrifting is no excuse to ditch breakfast or lunch. This is actually the perfect opportunity to catch up with your home girl who you haven’t seen in almost a year. Brunch date & thrifting? Yes and yes. Oh, and of course keeping snacks in your bag is a MUST. Nuts and granola are my go-to snacks, they always provide that little boost of energy.

BASIC IS OKAY WHEN THRIFTING.

I hate feeling basic, especially when it comes to my outfit choices. However, when dressing basic, it is easier to try things on over your clothes. My typical go-to outfit is tights and a cami/fitted top. Feel free to add a spunky outerwear piece to keep you from crying about the basic look; trust me though, it’ll definitely be easier for those thrift shops that have no fitting rooms. Thank you, Salvation Army.

WILL WE MEET AGAIN?

Try to imagine if you’re really going rock that dress, top or pants more than once. This is a general shopping tip, but it’s one that I love to emphasize when thrifting because when something’s only a buck or two, it’s easy to say “Why not?” I’m guilty of this too and it’s something I’m still trying to work on. If you can’t imagine at least 3 different ways to style one piece, say no!

I CAVED: BUT IT WAS ONLY A DOLLAR!

One of my favorite things to do when I realize that I haven’t worn a piece of clothing at all is posting it up on the selling app Poshmark. Here, you can swap or sell your clothes with fellow gals who are also dealing with overflowing closets. #thestruggleisreal It’s a great way to join the revolution on recycling your clothes, and the extra cash never hurts. There are a few other apps, too: depop and vinted are a few other popular ones. If you think your pieces are vintage shop worthy – you can even create an entire Etsy page dedicated to your one-of-a-kind vintage finds. The possibilities are truly endless.

TRADING LOCALLY.

If you have a great group of gal pals, feel free to trade amongst each other. You never know the treasures that are hiding in your besties closet.

DIY.

One of my favorite ways to force myself to wear a random piece that I have yet to rock is definitely customizing it to my liking. Distressing denim, cropping tees, adding patches and bleaching can really make you want to show off that one-of-a-kind piece all the time. I don’t know about you, but I LOVE rocking DIY’ed clothing – it’s one of the coolest ways to rock your personality.

I hope you find that your next thrift trip is successful after reading this list of tips. Do you have any tips not listed here? Feel free to list them in the comment section down below! I’m always down with trying out new tricks at the thrift shop!
Thank you for stopping by,

Happy Thrifting!
